We’re thrilled to share that Ammobia won first place at the 2025 Women in Cleantech and Sustainability Pitch Competition!

The pitch, delivered by our Co-founder and CEO, Karen Baert highlighted Ammobia’s mission to unlock clean ammonia from air and low-carbon hydrogen. It’s a breakthrough we believe can help power the transition to a more sustainable energy future.

Ammobia was proud to take center stage at CERAWeek 2025, the world’s premier energy conference where global leaders, innovators, and policymakers gather to shape the future of energy.

Our Co-founder & CEO Karen Baert delivered a compelling talk on advancing clean ammonia technology, followed by live conversations where we shared our mission to enable cost-effective, decentralized clean ammonia production.

Ammobia also took part in the Chevron House Pitch Showcase alongside other cutting-edge start-ups such as Aquanta Vision, SolarMantle, and Brint Tech. This exclusive event, hosted by Chevron Technology Ventures and supported by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), spotlighted next-generation technologies that are paving the way for a lower carbon future.

At a time when global collaboration is critical, we are honored to be part of the conversation driving energy transition forward and grateful to Chevron, NREL, and the Chevron Studio community for the platform and ongoing support.

Big news! We’re excited to announce a partnership with Genesis — a Technip Energies independent consulting arm to conduct an engineering study that will accelerate the scale-up of our disruptive ammonia production technology!

In 2024, we achieved a 250X scale-up of our proprietary reactor technology. Now, we’re setting our sights on another 1000X scale-up by the end of 2026 — bringing us closer to commercial deployment. But we can’t do it alone - world-class partners such as Genesis bring unique expertise to accelerate our path to market and widespread impact.

Through our joint engineering study with Genesis, we optimized our ammonia production process and validated our substantial cost-advantage vs traditional Haber-Bosch across scales, taking a critical step in towards making sustainable, cost-effective clean ammonia a reality at scale. Our process operates at significantly lower pressures and temperatures than Haber-Bosch, reducing costs, boosting efficiency and cutting emissions.

We look forward to continuing our non-exclusive partnership with Genesis.

Ammobia was selected for the third phase of Chevron Studio based on successful completion of Phase 2 of Chevron Studio and plans to commercialize the technology through a field trial with industry end users. Ammobia will work to scale its technology and aim to secure MOUs or LOIs with potential customers during the field trial phase.

The Ammobia team is thrilled to be accepted to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)Texas Innovates Accelerator CHILI as part of 10 start-ups with ground-breaking innovations in Hydrogen and Low-Carbon Fuels. We look forward to working with the CHILI team and exploring opportunities to demonstrate Ammobia's disruptive ammonia synthesis technology within the Texas Hydrogen Ecosystem.

Ammobia was selected from a nationwide pool of applicants who were vetted through a rigorous, three-stage selection process, including the selection of the finalists by a 33-person industry panel.

As part of our program, Ammobia will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of University of California, Berkeley students who will dedicate over 800 hours to providing critical commercialization support. Together, they will focus on identifying the most viable initial markets, prospective customers and partners, optimal business models, funding sources, and related strategies.

The round was led by Starlight Ventures with participation of Collaborative Fund, Chevron Technology Ventures, Arosa Capital, Zero Infinity Partners, R7, DNX Ventures and Plug and Play Tech Center

The presenters cover a wide range of technologies across the cleantech landscape, but all hope to break new ground as our nation and the global community continue the transformation to a clean energy future.

This is the 29th year of the event, which is set for May 1–3 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Denver, Colorado, near the Colorado Convention Center.

A different approach to sustainability comes from Karen Baert, 29, and Tristan Gilbert, 25, who founded Ammobia to produce low-cost green ammonia. The world currently produces around 175 million tons of ammonia each year, mostly for use as fertilizer, and its energy-intensive production produces massive volumes of greenhouse gas. San Francisco-based Ammobia has raised $5 million for its cleaner version.

Karen Baert and Tristan Gilbert founded Ammobia to produce low-cost green ammonia. The world currently produces around 175 million tons of ammonia per year, mostly for use as fertilizer, employing an energy-intensive, century-old industrial process that produces a lot of greenhouse gas. The industry is responsible for about 1 to 2% of global carbon emissions, making it one of the dirtiest on the planet. Baert and Gilbert are working to enable ammonia as a clean chemical, fertilizer, and energy carrier to support a decarbonized future. Their year-old company has raised $5 million.

Rocket Fund celebrated its 9th year by selecting nine outstanding recipients from a strong cohort of 142 applicants representing 18 states and 22 countries. Over 40 experts drawn from California utilities, DOE labs, investment groups, and Rocket Fund members contributed their expertise in identifying innovators in such diverse sectors as green industrial manufacture, carbon dioxide sequestration, green hydrogen production and refrigerant-free cold chain transportation.
